Slow pace for today. We packed the van up and headed to the Emmaus Sunday Shop. It was very chaotic. It was quite big and they seemed to have a very bizarre ticketing system. We're still not sure that we got to grips with it completely - And I may have genuinley accidentally misappropriated two Euros worth of olive forks!!
We didn't buy very much an interesting box, a couple of wine glasses, and the olive forks. There was a lot of stuff and if you didnt have Dr Fred you could have had a really good rummage... I might try and do one more Emmaus before we leave France.
After the jumble sale we went to find somewhere to park for the night. The first place we found was just a car park it wasn't very nice - It wasn't unpleasant but it wasn't where you wanted to hang out for the afternoon.... and the town, as usual, looked closed (i.e Saturday in France) I think everybody's at the Emmaus markets actually🤣🤣 or just driving around - theres plenty of traffic on the road...
So we had another look and found less than a kilometre away A really nice municipal campsite. Camping Les Vaugeons. These campsites are really good.. they're just so pleasant often well established with very mature trees and hedges - Quite basic facilities But they cost like less than 10 euros so you can't complain - they do the job.
We set up camp. Dr Fred got the tools out and we did some minor repairs to the van, i did some tidying... whose camp ridy is whose... bet you cant tell. we sat about reading and sewing... (4 bugs to go on the European sewing project) and had a meal... sat outside- perfect temperature🌞
Our evening entertainment was a wine tasting experiment. We had a fairly (for us) expensive bottle of fizz (8 euros🤣😂) and then we had a carton wine (1.25 euros)... obviously we drank with fizz first and it was very nice... and I think maybe we were inebriated because when we got to the carton wine it tasted fine🤣🤣 and we agreed if it had been carbonated It would be just as good - Yes we are definitely giddy lushes..
We were camping in amongst some really ancient trees, mainly huge oaks and fruit laden horse chesnuts. They grow all around the camp pitches. We sat under them with the spreading canopy, hanging, right over us. Through the branches the night sky looks amazing - the stars look like fairy lights. There are big enough breaks where you could distinguish particular constellations. we could see Cassiopia and the summer triangle - the ISS went over. It really just looked like the whole forest had been decorated with beautiful white fairy lights. Thats what half a bottle of fizz and a glass of cheap wine combined with nature can do.
It was a very still night... no movement in the trees at all. So calm.... we sat listening to owls hooting across the trees - its a month since the eclipse, so a new moon, meaning at ground level it was very dark - everyone else seemed to be in bed. It was tempting to start pagan dancing but we sucumbed to the tranquility and sat quietly communing with the owls. We were indeed wise.....
