Hedgehogs Return!!!

Adamfrost is back!!! At least I think it is Adamfrost - To be honest I find it quite difficult to tell one hedgehog from another but we have a lot of nocturnal hog activity caught on camera... only one hog at a time which suggests its the same one returning -  I'm ridiculously pleased - We can now use our massive supply of hog biscuits we won last year.    We have also got a huge crows nest under construction in the top of the copper beech tree - we are quite fascinated to watch the crows breaking off tree branches and inserting them to build this massive nest - I'm not sure if have crows in the garden is a good or bad thing - they are very good for eating pests but I think they might scare off other birds - time will tell - they are taking up residence and there's not a lot we can do about it.. When we were in Northumberland we lived next to an amazing rookery but were very saddened by the local 'gamekeeper' one day shooting into all the nests (I'm supposing he...

rewilding and newts

I'm getting a bit lax with blog posts - partly because we are having a very lazy and quiet time at the moment and really I'm just enjoying some peace and some long awaited family time. (contradictory to say the least) most of my days are spent in the garden and its very calming - although we do live quite near a big road and on odd occasions it can be noisy but I think I'm just getting used to it as background noise now - I've been very spoilt living in very rural locations and the price we pay to be near a community and shop is more traffic. The garden is proving to be quite amazing though and it is a complete joy to watch it unfold as the summer progresses.  It was one of the main reasons we bought this house - we don't have time to start a garden from scratch and this is a wonderful established space which we can work up to being how we like it.  The previous owner was a talented designer and has thoughtfully laid it out in an interesting way and is has been real...

June Days.....

Its a bit of a MEH day today.... rainy and chilly compared to yesterday so I have sat around in my jim jams - listened to a lot of music and I am reading Grayson Perry by Jacky Klein - which I am enjoying immensely - wishing I had read it a bit earlier as it is full of inspiration for my last uni module if maybe a little risque in places for what I was looking at.   I have been following the Grayson Perry Art Club on channel 4 - more by chance than management as we got out of the habit of real TV not having it for years and more tuned into watching streamed channels which means I never took any notice of what was on 'real time'.    Anyway I found it an interesting mix of art, community, comedy , some surprising guests and Mr and Mrs Perry who are very entertaining.    I'm always worried that people who catch the lime light like Grayson will get overdone so to speak but he is compulsive viewing and his book is great - he hold some similar ideas to slamitinru...

Spring is sprung, Pond Life, Yuris night, Birthday Present Dilemmas

Our frogs know nothing about lock down!!! They are hopping between gardens and believe me are making copious amounts of frogspawn and that requires breaking all social distancing rules....  I am ridiculously happy to find frogs and spawn in my pond!   It was just the icing on the cake when I had one of those good days - we had been feeling the pressure of the current situation when the sun started to shine, I had a major (for me) break through with InDesign, my 'lost in the post' plants turned up, my neighbor turned out to be friendly and then the frogs turned up!!!  Of course that night we sat down and watched the news and came back to reality - that's the last time I looked at the news... I find it so depressing and alarmist - I cant do anything other than what I am doing, I check odd bits on the internet so not completely unaware but I am, like many others, finding this constant battering very difficult. could this be a prince? I actually feel very privilege...
