Rhodes

Life on the ocean wave .... today we docked in Rhodes. We are here for 3 days...  To be honest not somewhere I have ever given any thought to.. so I was quite  surprised when I opened the curtains to much nicer view than expected. We walked into the Old Town and it was instantly very beautiful. Huge walls and collective ruins greeted us from the onset - its very well preserved, it is full of tourists, tourist shops and cafes but it has not been overly spoiled ( well it has been - but natives have to make a living🤣) so it's still looks incredibly atmospheric.   I, obviously,  hadnt done much research but I wasnt surprised to find it is a UNESCO Heritage site so I'm guessing that means that they can't mess too much with it.  In the main town we walked through the busy square and up the wonderful straight street that is famous for the Knights of the Templar. On each side of the street are allegedly inn dating...

the next brief beckons... colours and castles...

Back into the fray at college.... I've emptied my work bay and have started to collect inspiration for my new brief.  This time is based on interiors, a fairly loose brief left very much up to ourselves to come up with a concept and then a design which will translate into an interior kinda space...  I'm very keen to - surprise surprise - ramp up the colour action... research indicates this and next years colours are vibrant hues bright gaudy yellows and greens with splashes of purple and pink - well they are in my house at least - Dr Fred doesn't know this yet but when its a done deal he will learn to live with it....  Hes working away quite a bit in the coming weeks... So keen to stay with vibrant colours I decided the best place to start was with a mood board.  I've been following some seriously funky decorators and interior designers on Instagram so I started there for  colour inspiration.  When I had picked my favourite colour schemes I wrote to the ...

planning gallivanting and actual gallivanting

I cant believe what a faff it is to get passports for children... doesn't help if one small child aged just 3 decides not to cooperate so its almost impossible to get a decent image.. We did finally succeed but now I'm worried that little legs thinks we are going on a helicopter that Nana is piloting - thing is, shes got a memory like nothing I've seen that age, and may well kick off when we finally rock up at the airport and its only a boring plane with bog standard pilot not super Nana!!! The real faff was that we took our own pictures and then tried to get them printed as passport friendly photographs... Boots don't do it, not on site anyway.. Tescos franchise was either closed for lunch (great timing for those with only a lunch hour) or broken!!! We had to pay a kings ransom in the end and have them done at one of those lingering, only managing because some people cant use internet, or need immediacy - like me - high street photo shops.  Any way its done now and f...

Snowy Castle in the Dales

Dr Fred, two friends and myself have just had an excellent adventure out in the Yorkshire Dales today.  We were very privileged to have a private explore of Bolton Castle set in the most amazingly beautiful Wensleydale and surrounded by Yorkshires finest countryside.  That said the weather was at its worst atmospheric.. i.e. foggy - so little views to be had - but at its best it was snowing and its rather fine to be the lone occupants on the battlements of any castle in the snow!!! Bolton Castle and although you cant tell here its snowing!!! Dr Fred and a fellow star geek are doing a Go Stargazing event  gostargazing.co.uk   at the castle in a few weeks time so the two esteemed astronomers and two telescope Sherpas went along for a venue reckie... and were very happy when after an initial meeting with the staff involved in presenting the event we were invited to go and explore the castle. Battlements Its a 13th Century pile of stunning stones which ...
