Dubrovnik to Kefalonia...

We left the room and took a cab to the cruise terminal hoping they would let us board early or at least leave our bags. No such luck... we had 5 hours before we could even start the process.... but a very pleasant port officer man let us leave the big bags in his office so we could go and wander round the town.   At this end of town there was pretty much only the marina. It was very diiferent - much quieter no tourist tat shops - more residential and commercial. We hit the supermarket for Croation sardine tins and just wandered round the marina - picking out which boat we would like🤣. We found a surprising quiet haven, away from the traffic and made a coffee last as long as we could. Why is it time flies by when you are trying to have slow morning in bed drinking tea and draaaags when you just need to be doing the next plan! There wasnt much to do or see apart from some very tempting pistachio croisants... but we were fully aware of the food mou...

day 2 ... more steps...Dubrovnik

The dance beach got quite busy... mainly locals swimming.  The water was incredibly clear and so many shades of green and blue. There was very little shade so after a while we headed up the path back on to the main drag to look for some lunch.   The old town and immediate surrounding area is one big eating area punctuated by souveiner shops... lots of 'authentic' Game of Thrones tat... I did go in to see if they had the wine glasses- which are like the ones I bought in Prague but they were only offering seriously nasty plastic - halloween like- goblets and tankards which at €98 each felt a little bit excessive.  There was an amazing sweet shop though... might have to revisit... Light lunch was easy to find.. the bakeries offer such delicious looking snacks... we probably spent longer choosing than eating.  Sunny spots to sit and picnic while people watching are plentiful as are the people to watch.  It is, however, quite difficult to...

Dubrovnik

We are in Dubrovnik and it's very pretty. If you had a good imagination you could just see the characters out of Game of Thrones tearing around the old city up and down the beautiful tiny streets images of Cersei Lannister starting her walk of shame down the Jesuit steps... but you'd have to think hard because actually in reality - it's crazy busy, it's crowded, the town welcomes around about 5,000 people per day from cruise ships, which makes it incredibly touristy and does rather take the edge off the beautiful buildings and the stone walls surrounding the Old Town. Way of course a part of the problem as we are picking up a cruise ship that Dr Fred is working on from here on Friday.  I can't imagine how they manage to empty the town to film Game of Thrones but rumor has a lot of money exchanged hands paying off kayak hire people so they could use the kayak landing space for King's Landing. But the weather is amazing ...
