It wasnt quite so nice for parking - a more open carpark but pretty empty - so we figured it would do for one night.
We had a wander around in the evening. Google lying again - had said there as a food festival but we couldnt find it... it didnt matter thats nor why we ended up here it was more,about finding nice place to sleep off the main drag.
The villege was very old - some really lovely obviously ancient buildings.. all stacked on top of each other small alleyways and tiny streets brightened with dashes of bright red geraniums. -
It was a very tranquil spot - we settled down for our evening meal, back doors wide open - fantastic view across the plain... amd as it got dark we finally battened down the hatches and went to sleep...only to be rudely woken by youths at 3.30 am reving cars and playing VERY loud music next to the van... they didnt stay long. I lay there willing myself to be charitable... we were young once🤣🤣.
It was (other than the night time visitors) a very pleasant spot - fab views across the valley - the village church next door striking the hours - twice incase you didnt catch it the first time - throw back from the olden days when people didnt have timepieces and had to rely on church clock.
We left Vho - deciding we needed a proper campsite for a night... we needed laundry, loo emptying facilities and a real immersion in a shower... we found somwhere reasonably affordable on Lake Orta.
We drove down from the hill and found ourselves on the vast plain of northern Italy which leads to the border and the alps. For a long drive it was just flat as far as the eye could see... a very different landscape to our previous experience... we drove through villages and small towns.. It was sunday so mostly deserted, still a roundabout every mile or so and so many speed cameras - and not many signs indicating actual speed limits- alot of the places we drove through were quite industrial... huge concrete blocks of whatever... storage, technology, agriculture, meth labs, hard to tell... non descriptive mundane. Quite a lot of empty derelict building as well obviously not a 'desirable'area.
Despite the lean towards industrial buildings its a very pretty part of the world, big skies, interesting landscapes, mostly looked after spaces. All the villages we stayed at or passed through were very clean but once you got on to the open highways the litter was pretty terrible...quite a lot of fly tipping in laybys..
The mou tains loomed in the distance.....
