We found a very nice camping site, just outside Oña... Camping Puerta de los Montes Obarenes....one of the nicest campsites we've been in a long time. Very basic, not very big but with friendly people, a nice bar area and to cut a long story short (and a lot of dithering) we managed to stay there for two nights. We had a few drinks in the bar - some people swam in the pool. It was actually a very nice place to be, trees, birds and bats.
On the second day because we didn't have so much driving to do we went into Oña and visited the Monasterio de Salvadore which was blissfully cool and highly decorated with gold inside and full of the most amazing 16th century carved woodwork. We stopped and had a beer in town - feeling very continental sitting under a parasol in the market square and then we drove up the hill to the Miradore de Elba, the viewpoint which was quite near the campsite. There was an amazing 360 degree view from the top and it was quite windy so again blessedly cool. However cooling the wind was it only seemed to work while you stood still🤣🤣. Dr Fred went on a very brief sortie along the ridge - he would have liked to do more but it was getting quite late by this time and we haven't eaten and also it was still incredibly hot and there was no shade.
Over the last couple of days the heat has become quite ferocious. We've reached temperatures of about 37 degrees today and for most of that time we've been driving so it's been fairly horrendous. Our air con in thecan leaves alot to desired... We also spent a horrendous hour in a gigantic supermarket trying to find food we liked the look of we're just not very good at supermarkets Dr Fred and I🤣 especially when we are together...
Finally after what seemed like a very long day driving (and I'm not even driving) once again through spectacular scenary we got to Camping Lago Resort which was the only place we could find with space for us tonight. We have got the tiniest space you could ever imagine which took a great amount of maneuvering to get in - which was just what we didn't need at the end of today 😵💫 anyway we are here we are... two cups of tea in and we are now quite calm and we are just waiting for our traveling companions to arrive so that we can crack open the beer.
Tomorrow we hit the potential eclipse destination and hopefully we can stop driving for a few days.
