Hanging there on this adventure 🤣🤣 - not us 🤣 but a serene hang glider over the acropolis but I thought I,'d try trick you...
We spent 2 more days in Rhodes port as more ships passengers changed over - flying home or flying in rather than metamorphosing...
On day 2 we had a very late start and then walked through the town to the Acropolis. Not much of the actual temple is left - and its heavily scaffolded at the moment - but theres a pretty impressive amphitheatre and some nice ruins.
A further ten minute walk took us to a view point overlooking the other side of the penninsular... impressive views and potential rocks... it was quite a hike though, and I'm glad we left it later in the day when the sun was less intense.

We walked back into the walled streets, it was early evening and the town was much quieter. We met up with some friends and had a drink and some nibbles in a lovely roof top cafe. The town was all lit up and it looked like a fairytale - or possibly, more appropiately, a greek myth... We met a parrot
On day 3 we had a entertainments meeting... and finally got a shedule for the trip so now at least Dr Fred knows when his lectures and stargazing are. We have had quite a few comments about stargazing being too early for second sitting diners but when we tried to change it to half hour later its not possible.. such a tight programme🙁
After the meeting we decided to use the day to go investigate the rocks on the other side of the island. We walked through the liberty gate into the 'new' town - busy spot even on a sunday - just like any other town.. usual shops, clothes, electrics, ect... we walked in a straight line just to get over the tip of the peninsular. Away from the walled town. That bit of town was quite green - lots of frangipan trees but full of classic meduim rise apartment blocks - interestingly not so many scratty cats -
We had spent a while during the previous evening looking for a bar that sold retsina- Dr Fred having got it into his head he wanted to try it (again) noone seemed to stock any or those that did would only serve with food... so finding a bottle of Retsina became a mission.
On the way to the rocks we found a shop posing as a supermarket😀. There would be little or no chance of self catering here unless its either a liquid diet or vacuum packed olives and baclava... but they did have a cold bottle of retsina and large packet of Lays crisps. Picnic on the beach sorted!
The beach is mainly pebbles - lots of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire but also great big gaps as it is the end of the season so alot of places closing or packing up. I sat on the beach contemplating the waves and glorious colours in the sea and Dr Fred raced to the rocks.
He came back quite quickly to say that there were some much nicer places further along a promenade in amongst the rocks. Pleasant spots where we could sit and have a picnic so I packed up my drawing stuff and we walked a lot further along the beach. He was right, it was much nicer, much quieter and there were lots of quite nice places little walls to sit on. (and surprisingly no cats). We sat and have our picnic of some pastries that we had pinched from breakfast a huge bag of lace crisps and a bottle of red scene of wine in the sunshine by the sea. does it get any better.
That said, it was quite a long jaunt back to the ship, slightly tipsy from a lunchtime half bottle of wine each and our nearest star was very shining... nana naps all round and we forgoed the invitation to have a last drink ashore in the evening.
I do have to state it's 'Greek night' on the ship. A lot of the guests are dressed in togas with olive headbands and all the trimmings! The Neptune Lounge is full of the house band and the dance troop doing Mamma Mia... we are hiding at the stern in our favourite place. The advantage of Greek night was that the food was much better than normal. We had loads of different kinds of Greek with mousaka, souvlaki, Stefido and stuffed peppers... so the food was better then anything we've had all the rest of the trip.
For those who are reading this regulary we are heading to turkey tonight... my phone doesnt support internet there so I will post if i find wifi or a collection of posts when we hit Malta.
