We left the room and took a cab to the cruise terminal hoping they would let us board early or at least leave our bags. No such luck... we had 5 hours before we could even start the process.... but a very pleasant port officer man let us leave the big bags in his office so we could go and wander round the town.
At this end of town there was pretty much only the marina. It was very diiferent - much quieter no tourist tat shops - more residential and commercial. We hit the supermarket for Croation sardine tins and just wandered round the marina - picking out which boat we would like🤣. We found a surprising quiet haven, away from the traffic and made a coffee last as long as we could. Why is it time flies by when you are trying to have slow morning in bed drinking tea and draaaags when you just need to be doing the next plan!
There wasnt much to do or see apart from some very tempting pistachio croisants... but we were fully aware of the food mountain awaiting us on board ship so we gave it a miss.
Eventually we got to board and we have been allocated a really nice cabin on deck 8 still with the obligatory lifeboat outside the window... but very much to the side so we have a nice clear view out.
We've caught up with a few old friends and large shiraz wines have been inbibed so it's all looking good.
Day two saw us head in across to Greece. Dr Fred gave his first lecture which was well received - quite a lot of people in the auditorium - a lot of people with questions afterward. he was supposed to give her lunch as well but the entertainment's team forgot to tell him so that will be rescheduled there are less sea days than we had expected which means there are less lectures but possibly more stargazing time will tell.
Our first port of call was on the island of Kefelonia we got off the ship and had a wander around the small town of Argustola. It was Sunday so a lot of things were shut and really it was just a tourist shops that were open. It's a pleasant little town surrounded by mountains which made Dr Fred yearn... Nothing spectacular except the loggerheaded turtles that were in the sea. the local fishermen clean the fish and throw the scraps into the sea and the Turtles come up to eat them and they came really close so we've got a really good look at them they're quite enormous and so graceful in the sea....
Ok more about Greece latrr...I'm putting this while still got internet... I know its not tidy....
