On finally retiring to our cabin as we left Malaga behind, we found a letter awaiting us. It explained that the itinerary for the rest of the journey home was subject to change due to some serious stormy weather forcast. We would now leave Gibraltar earlier so our port call in Lisbon would be an early arrival and no longer an overnight stop. The intention is to get in front pf the worst of the storm over the Bay of Biscay and spend a day in Honfleur beforing arrival in Southhampton as originally planned. Looks like it might be a bumpy ride...
We woke up to Rock of Gibraltar outside our window... We had planned a walk in Gibraltar but with only a few hours on land we decided not to bother. It was a 3 hour round trip just the walk and if you added time on for a little bit of playing in between it would have been a rush. Shame really as other than cheap booze I dont think Gibraltar offers much else.. not in the town bit. That was why we were keen to explore the peninsular and bit further out. Mind you the whole place is one massive building site I can't imagine there are any 'unspoilt' bits left.
We walked into town and bought some cheap gin. We had a coffee and tried to get some churros with chocolate sauce... the service was terrible.. eventually we got churros but no sauce ... we waited ... and waited a bit more... still no sauce to be had... and the waitress was not pleasant about it... we were disappointed but we werent charged for the churros so wont complain further.
A bit of a nonevent day... I think we are ready for home... It was 'british night' on the ship - not something we were particulary interested in. The evening entertainment didn't appeal to us... but we were in the minority. By 7.00 the ship was awash with red white and blue bedecked passengers and an incredible amount of union jacks. No overt racism just massive patriotism - I'm working hard not to be cynical or negative here - each to their own - politics and religion are strict no go areas for Fred.Olsen staff....... Gibraltar will have sold a large number of daily mails... nuff said!
I've been keeping an eye on you on marinetraffic and watching the weather - fingers crossed for your Bay of Biscay crossing! I spent a couple of days in dock in Honfleur a long time ago and seem to remember it had a quaint little historical harbour area.
