Wave Rock WA

 We picked the van from Perth.   We hit the road we just went to the supermarket for some provisions and then we set off to find a camping near York  not our York obs...but the next town was Beverly so I reckon there is some Yorkshire blood around here... Glorious forest site, nobody else here just the trees for shade, there were toilets, water, swings if you were so inclined - It totally reminds me of why we do this camping milarky... it's just very nice it's also very hot so we got here and we kind of arranged and sorted stuff out in the van and made the bed up and then we fell asleep for an hour then a quick explore - a walk where we saw the most enormous spiders I think they were huntsman because they had those big big fat body.  I didn't have my camera with  me.  We came back and couldn't be bothered to cook so we just had crisps and hot cross buns sat in this beautiful forest watching the sun go down and the stars come out I just think what more could you ever want

we made the decision to get up early to avoid the heat - expecting mid 30's later in the day and we headed for Wave Rock - A large lump of granite rock that surprisingly resembles a wave.. its pretty impressive... on the way we even managed to buy some wine glasses so we don't have to use nasty plastic beakers 😋😏


We wandered around the bottom and then climbed up to the top,there were loads of lizards - first real wild life we have seen apart from dead kanga on the road😞 I did a bit of scrambling on top of the rock - the views were amazing - miles and miles of flat bush land with another huge granite lump stuck in the distance.  the weather has been fantastic and it was great to get up high and feel a bit of wind to take the edge of the heat. 



and Dr Fred headed off in the direction of some huge boulders for a long need fix of rock...



there was even a bit of summit rock art...

    OMG Wave Rock. I went there many moons ago. Considering how dense granite is I read it has taken millions of years for the wind to carve the wave. I love that place. It’s certainly a good old drive to reach. If you continue heading North try to go to shark bay. At certain times there are mass gatherings of sharks there and a large sign saying “ do not go over the cliff top” that was it, over the top and down the side I went.

Vigo

We left the ship to explore Vigo. Its a much larger place then we expected... although tbh I hadn't given ut a lot of thought. Its a real mish mash of old and new and having got a map from tourist info we decided to follow the walking trail to the Monte Castro... the highest point of the town.  Most of the town was pretty much as everywhere else... lots of traffic... lots of people... one or two interesting buildings and a lot of shopping. We headed to the art gallery - this has been a year of gallery visits so we we seen o reason to change now.  The Museo de Marco is housed in the towns ex prison building and its very grand. In fact, I think that on this occaision the building might have been more interesting than the art....  Although the visiting exhibition by Susanne S D Themlitz was strangely compelling. It was a huge varied collection of eclectic items... found, salavaged, manipulated and arranged in lots of ways - weirdly inspiring - and mostly enjoyable to look at...

verdant lushness

Its a never ending island hop... today we hopped of the boat at Kingstown, on the island St. Vincents and Grenadine. Once through the usual port duty free - cheap booze and diamonds to go milarkey we were straight into the town... crazy noisy smelly chaos... refreshingly no tat shops for tourists, just local markets and street traders all vying for local sales.  Music blasting from everywhere, cars (very battered and often very pimped) all over the roads - parked in the middle of the street, loading, unloading, chatting seemingly oblivious to the total traffic jam caused behind them...  We walked through this mayhem - the temperatures were rising probably about 30 degrees - tourists evident by trying to walk on the shady side of the street - even when we turned off the main drag and there were less people it was still like carnival time with music blasting everywhere. Alesund

Our final destination stop was Alesund. This is a very pretty town in southern Norway built on a peninsula. All the houses are painted pretty colours and a lot of the architecture is all very Art Nouveau based. This is because the town itself was completely burnt to the ground In 1904 by a fire for which they never found the original cause. The whole town had to be rebuilt and this became a huge National Effort and a lot of prominent and up and coming architects flocked to the town to stick there 20 pence in. Consequently the town is very heavily Art Nouveau which was very fashionable at the time. There is this wonderful Museum just off the harbour which is a very beautiful Art Nouveau house. It has amazing panelling, doors, wallpaper, and it's all furnished with beautiful art Nouveau Furniture.
