this beetle inspired by the Natural History Museum features quite a lot in my designs |
I'll passingly mention the Corona virus as it impacts everywhere - College has stopped all group sessions - the buildings remain open to use the facilities for the time being but ominous emails about handing in digitally are arriving so I expect it's only a matter of time before it shuts until further notice. For some students this will cause massive problems - fortunately I'm probably going to be ok. I have pretty much got myself to a place where I can work from home, I have printed several scarves at college using the sublimation printing and heat press, and now its just a matter of embellishment. My intention is to order a further 6 designs from an external printing company so I can have them printed bigger and on natural fabrics like silk and cotton lawn but his may not happen just yet. This is at considerable expense and due to purse strings being a wee bit tight - Dr Freds classses cancelled - less money coming in and given the fact its likely at this point to be a digital hand in I may leave these designs for the time being.... no point if we are only going send photos and there is no end of year degree show.
hot off the press I love this process its so exciting as the fabric emerges from the rollers and you see the actual print!!! |
Meanwhile I have set up at home and with spotify in the back ground and a view of my lovely new garden I feel quite happy to finish up what I can at home!
I was lucky to have my formal tutorial just before all these restrictions came into place and it was a very positive experience with good feedback - constructive advice about areas for working up and adding value to the end products. I am very pleased with the prints I have done in college, the Empress polyester fabric has worked really well the colours are fabulous and it drapes really nicely. I am mid way beading the first embellished scarf and the beads have added a really nice weight to the scarf.
a pile of scarves to be embellished and hemmed! |
