Last week I made a new discovery!! Our lecturer for professional practice is Claire A Baker, a textile artist specializing in embroidery https://www.facebook.com/claireabaker2/. I couldn't make her web page open so I have posted her Facebook page instead... In the course of events which I think was more to do with our final major project rather than PP she brought in some of her work and talked a bit about embroidery and how it had evolved. Her work is very beautiful and very inspiring, the work she showed us was very varied and in places incredibly detailed. Totally beyond my patience levels although I would love to give it a go one day... this is yet another skill to learn when I have time!!!!
Claire is very involved with the Babushkas of Chernobyl - another tale for another time - but very very interesting and worth looking at her FB page to find out more... but back to my new discovery... hidden away in among Claire's incredible embroidery were some wee glinty bits, rhinestones, jewels - all shiny and reflecty - right up my street and they were glued on!
Further inquiries led me to the internet and withing days I was the proud owner of a rhinestone applicator wand and some 'hot fix' jewels blagged off a friend at college.
Joyous moments as I started to bling everything in sight - I was definitely a magpie in a previous life.. I rummaged through some printed samples of my current work and started adding bling!! its a faffy fairly time consuming task but soooo worth it - I expect I'll get faster as I practice!
I realised this was my way forward.. I don't want to overdo it but a wee bit of shininess will enhance some of my designs. I didn't have many jewels so I had a delve into the internet again an d found a company Rhinestonesonline
they had a very friendly looking site so I thought I would ask them if they would sponsor me for my final degree work and in return I would provide them with free advertising and flout the logo at every given opportunity - what stars they are as they agreed and within days had sent me a lovely collection of loot, ripe for embellishing my scarves.
rhinestonesonline.co.uk sent samples of every colour and size I could possibly ask for and I am now having great fun dropping bits of loveliness into odd bits of my samples.
I cant wait to start embellishing the actual scarves! It won't be long now - I'm on the last leg of prepping for printing! see next post..
