A few pals have got together to work as a group on individual sewing projects, using each other for inspiration, motivation and support... sometimes a little bit of group dynamics helps to keep a project flowing and its really good to bounce ideas around with like minded people. There is an opportunity to share skills and resources drink tea, eat cake and have a laugh while being creative.
We are trying to meet on a regular basis and yesterday after a couple of preliminary meetings to decide on which projects we each wanted to pursue we went on a 'field trip' to buy fabric. Not me of course I am not buying anything until September (ha ha). Considering we are four adult ex professional people (well still professional I suppose) we didn't do our home work very well and the main event was closed!!!! Fortunately there was another fabric supplier just across the way so the trip wasn't entirely wasted. and between us we did manage to purchase some nice fabric sample books for future fabric collage. To ease our disappointment we retired to the local ASDA to find a coffee and were further disheartened to find there was only a McDonald's!! Needs must, we bought coffee and had a little group crit each person showing progress since we last met.
I find it really inspiring to see other peoples work evolve and I love being able to trade ideas and enthusiasm. I came home feeling positive and ready to sew... today I have spent most of the day on my current project which is going to be a footstool pouffe thingy - eventually. I am still totally committed to using my stash of odd fabrics so it is in keeping with my patch work/ applique style and is a work in progress - so far its going well. The assembly bit is when it gets difficult but hopefully I have measured everything right!!!
Its going to be very colourful so it can fit in anywhere and carries on the theme of flowers from my garden to vaguely match the cushions I made before Christmas. It is patchworked on the machine and then machine appliqued using a mixture of applique stitch and freehand machine embroidery. I have randomly quilted the backing onto some wadding to give it both texture and support. I will probably add to the random quilting when I have finished with the machine embroidery Watch this space for the finished object.
