Potential Branding

I've been working on some branding ideas this week... I went through a lot of stuff about flowers and ravens... using my drawings for business card design and letterheads - trying to design a logo - none of which I particularly liked.... there was a moment - given the current circumstances when I thought what the heck - anything will suffice at this point - then after an hour in the garden a a calming cuppa I resumed playing about and decided quite rationally this isolation/ quarantine will not go on for ever where as good branding and a nice logo might!!!
I discarded my drafts using drawings, working on the premise that they can date very quickly.  I looked at what I had used for 'branding' when I was at Newcastle College and it did look dated compared to what I am doing now so with that in mind I took a different tack and thought about other angles my work had.  After more reflection I decided I liked the moon!

More faffing and I have some working ideas.  The rectangle cards use an image which I have permission to use but I would change it to the same image as the square ones if I decide to use them.  the image of the moon on the square cards is one I took myself with some help from a friend who is an astro photographer using his equipment and telescope.

I like these images because the moon is constant  pretty timeless, and fits in with my brand planetrubystarrs.   The text is deliberately plain and lower case to keep and feeling of  simplicity.

I will play about with colour combinations although orange is nearly always my go to colour... sunrises, sunsets...... nature at its most beautiful.
I have also played with the idea of making them really simple and using black and white images and in fact this second design lends itself with a little bit of Photo shop messing to looking quite dramatic in monochrome should I ever feel the need for less colour in my life - unlikley!!!

I hope to use this image as a logo and also for the back ground for scarf labels so it needs to be quite versatile.

I don't get much written feedback on this blog but would seriously welcome constructive criticism - I'm really missing the college environment where we can share ideas and support each other with sometimes seemingly mindless, but more often, useful banter.

I hope everyone is staying safe and well.

Scotland part 2

The second half of the week continued in much the same vein.  We had one rainy afternoon which was actually quite nice to be holed up in the house with the rain lashing the windows.  It probably wasn't quite so nice for the two visitors that came on their bikes but they're tough cookies - and its only water- but I did feel sorry for them having to cycle six miles back down the track in the wind and rain, but given Scotland,  it wasn't as bad as it could be.

Funchal

So after three days at sea we finally hit Funchal in Madeira.  An escape from the ship, and I have to say it was very pleasant indeed.  First of all the weather is really splendid.  Especially when you know that everybody else in the UK is suffering grim storms and vile winds..  Over here it is between 22 and 25 degrees is really quite warm.    Funchal is a pretty city. It's built on a hill it with lots of lovely white houses with stunning red roofs.   In order to get the best of it we walked along the sea front until we got to the cable car and we took it up the hill.  It was a really good ride much longer than we imagined and it's quite weird because it goes right through the town -  completely over everybody's house...  So not only do you get a lovely vista of the bay but you can view the beautiful rooftops and get to look in everybody's gardens and to look at their picnic sets.. clean washing nice plants... scratty backyards.... We got off th
