Spare Time, Loose Covers

I've pretty much finished my second year at the Northern School of Art and I have really seriously enjoyed it - I have learnt so much and feel my confidence growing... Its a relief to have handed everything in for this year and I just await my marks and at this point what will be will be!!!!

We have had some more family stuff to sort out and that has taken considerable energy -   now I am hoping for a little relaxation time and some space to get on with some projects I have been planning in the house for some time...and finally an empty day arrives so the first thing I started was sorting out my work space ha ha ha its just not feasible - every time I move something  I swear it just multiplies - gets bigger .... Its full of college left overs which needs sorting - mostly binning - I seem to save every little scrap and I mean every little bit 'cos most of it gets used for my sketch book embellishment... So I put that effort aside and decided to cover my old arm chair instead... reusing some old curtains which are just the wrong size for this house.   I have painstakingly cut and pinned the fabric inside out sewing every seam in big stitches first so it can be unpicked easily.... and eventually, without too many mishaps, I now have a lovely loose cover giving my old tatty previously red, charity shop arm chair a new lease of life. It also uses up some of my fabric stash so double winner and a tiny corner of my studio emptied!!!

Pictured here against the ONLY blank wall we have in the house and it goes rather nicely with the crown lampshade (worn as a hat every Christmas)....

Scotland part 2

The second half of the week continued in much the same vein.  We had one rainy afternoon which was actually quite nice to be holed up in the house with the rain lashing the windows.  It probably wasn't quite so nice for the two visitors that came on their bikes but they're tough cookies - and its only water- but I did feel sorry for them having to cycle six miles back down the track in the wind and rain, but given Scotland,  it wasn't as bad as it could be.

Funchal

So after three days at sea we finally hit Funchal in Madeira.  An escape from the ship, and I have to say it was very pleasant indeed.  First of all the weather is really splendid.  Especially when you know that everybody else in the UK is suffering grim storms and vile winds..  Over here it is between 22 and 25 degrees is really quite warm.    Funchal is a pretty city. It's built on a hill it with lots of lovely white houses with stunning red roofs.   In order to get the best of it we walked along the sea front until we got to the cable car and we took it up the hill.  It was a really good ride much longer than we imagined and it's quite weird because it goes right through the town -  completely over everybody's house...  So not only do you get a lovely vista of the bay but you can view the beautiful rooftops and get to look in everybody's gardens and to look at their picnic sets.. clean washing nice plants... scratty backyards.... We got off th
