Liberty Floral |
I have loved Liberty for a long time - the shop itself is full of glorious goodies and the fabric department has always had a special place in my heart. I remember many wonderful visits to the haberdashery floor spanning many years - from 1972 as a would be 15 year old rock chick - in town to see Led Zeppelin - wearing washed out patched and embroidered Levis (I still have them under the bed) desperately coveting all the fabrics on display, but knowing my scant finance might stretch to about 3 yards of something wonderful. 10 years later - my wedding dress - vivid green liberty silk with pink detail (honeymoon Reading Rock Festival - now fully fledged rock chick) then my first child - rock music out of the window - money tight and i worked at the Liberty concession in a Leeds department store. T hen the children resplendent in matching Liberty as wedding attendants.. Liberty is timeless, it has over the decades moved with the times and continues to have a definite impact on fashion and furnishings.
I have quite a stash of Liberty fabric, vintage and more modern, big and little bits. Recently I visited an exhibition all about Liberty over the years at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London and it has prompted me to think what can i do with all this fabric - there is not point in hoarding it - life is too short - this fabric deserves to be something splendid - probably a quilt but I'm open to ideas...
