New Horizons

Now the dissertation has gone the next bit of fun starts.....
There is a lot of giddy excitement in the air in out household!!! College finishing up, the recent hand ins, new projects starting, and the icing on the cake is we are moving house... better then just moving we are actually buying a house.

We have loved this little house we rent at the moment - its a very pleasant space to live in but the village is not what we had hoped it would be and we feel very isolated and quite frankly the neighbors are not what we are used to.  Yes we were very spoiled when we lived in Northumberland - the community there embraced newcomers and was interesting to live with - we made lifelong friends, so moving here to a similar set up was disappointing to say the least and we have never really settled.  So we have been looking at alternatives.

That said this is still a bolt from the blue - an unexpected happening in our lives - Dr Fred and I have vaguely discussed this option as we wanted some security in our aging years - more honestly we wanted somewhere we could gather all our possessions under one roof - (mainly our books) and we never imagined we would get our act together to find somewhere affordable which met our ever growing ever ridiculous needs and wants list!!

We have been lazily looking in this area we live in, we don't feel we want to return to Leeds but we don't wish to be too far away and I chanced upon an interestingly looking house for sale in a ex mining village about ten miles north of where we are now.   It merited a viewing and that led to an offer being accepted and a considerable amount of giddiness!!

Its nothing grand - but its perfect for us - we hum and ahhed about its location but decided we would prefer to live among real people in more of a potential community is a less pretty area then live as we do now in a 'nice' village where no-one speaks to you unless its to complain about the dirty yellow **** van......

its not ours yet so I'm only uploading the garden for now
This new house is lovely - plenty of room - fab big kitchen, room for Dr Fred to have his study and me to have a studio - it has a little conservatory and the most amazing private mature garden!  I am soooooooo excited to have my own garden again and Dr Fred is very pleased because it already has a pond so he doesn't have to dig one!!!  It obviously has been a much loved house and I think it will continue to be so...

Our definite tick list included space ✓ privacy ✓ decent outlook ✓a tower ✓(well almost - as good as we will ever get) woodburner ✓ interesting features ✓ nice garden ✓  efficient heating and double glazing✓ enough bedrooms ✓ decent kitchen✓ good vibe ✓ shop nearby ✓
our wish list included conservatory ✓ gas cooking✓ big south facing garden ✓ utility room ✓ hallway and landing ✓ garage ✓ greenhouse ✓ pond ✓ balcony X  library X... 😂😂

To be honest all it lacks for us is the sea... although it looks over fields so its not a bad outlook.

I cant wait to move in....

Scotland part 2

The second half of the week continued in much the same vein.  We had one rainy afternoon which was actually quite nice to be holed up in the house with the rain lashing the windows.  It probably wasn't quite so nice for the two visitors that came on their bikes but they're tough cookies - and its only water- but I did feel sorry for them having to cycle six miles back down the track in the wind and rain, but given Scotland,  it wasn't as bad as it could be. The big quest for the 2nd half of the week was to find some deer antiers!  The chap that owned the house dropped in to visit - he was a very friendly fella and was chatting about how this was the time of year when all the Stags lost their antlers (he collected them and sold them) so after that we were on the serious lookout.   It's always been Fred's mission to find some dropped antlers....  The Monro baggers continued with the mission to bag the remaining three Monros... there is discussion as whet...

Vigo

We left the ship to explore Vigo. Its a much larger place then we expected... although tbh I hadn't given ut a lot of thought. Its a real mish mash of old and new and having got a map from tourist info we decided to follow the walking trail to the Monte Castro... the highest point of the town.  Most of the town was pretty much as everywhere else... lots of traffic... lots of people... one or two interesting buildings and a lot of shopping. We headed to the art gallery - this has been a year of gallery visits so we we seen o reason to change now.  The Museo de Marco is housed in the towns ex prison building and its very grand. In fact, I think that on this occaision the building might have been more interesting than the art....  Although the visiting exhibition by Susanne S D Themlitz was strangely compelling. It was a huge varied collection of eclectic items... found, salavaged, manipulated and arranged in lots of ways - weirdly inspiring - and mostly enjoyable to look at...

Funchal

So after three days at sea we finally hit Funchal in Madeira.  An escape from the ship, and I have to say it was very pleasant indeed.  First of all the weather is really splendid.  Especially when you know that everybody else in the UK is suffering grim storms and vile winds..  Over here it is between 22 and 25 degrees is really quite warm.    Funchal is a pretty city. It's built on a hill it with lots of lovely white houses with stunning red roofs.   In order to get the best of it we walked along the sea front until we got to the cable car and we took it up the hill.  It was a really good ride much longer than we imagined and it's quite weird because it goes right through the town -  completely over everybody's house...  So not only do you get a lovely vista of the bay but you can view the beautiful rooftops and get to look in everybody's gardens and to look at their picnic sets.. clean washing nice plants... scratty b...
