Suddenly I have time on my hands... and soil... and probably pigeon poo... summer is here, college is all but finished and I have been gardening and enjoying the sunshine. Its quite an adjustment not having the next assignment to think about and I'm already trying to plan to finish all the UFO (unfinished objects) which are cluttering my studio (ha revert to spare bedroom) space. I've a quilt to quilt and lots of cushion covers to make - not that I need more cushions but I filled some printing space up with pieces only large enough for cushions!!
Talking of which I got my fabric printing back just in time for the show. My original printed fabric at college was a bit of a mess as the printer didn't like the light material I choose so I opted to to have my designs printed externally and then had the usual battle with technology to get them up and transferred to Magic Textiles, the company I used. The chap at Magic Textiles was helpful and patient and the designs have come back looking fabulous - so anyone thinking of getting fabric printing look them up, good clean service and quick turnaround. I had 8 scarves to hem and my sewing machine eats corners!!! I need a new sewing machine!!
Everyone's work at the show look fabulous, its a testament to the hard work and talent across the whole college. It was upbeat (good tunes from Underworld) and all the displays beautifully presented - Especially our bit - the printed and constructed textiles ha ha - considering our tutor was ill and we had to muddle through with various help from available staff. So there we are finished and graduated - still waiting hear final marks but I reckon I'll have done okay and I'm guaranteed a place on the Fine Art final year starting in September - an interesting proposition to be considered.
To celebrate being an (almost) graduated artist we went to a extremely nice Turkish restaurant in Morpeth for a meal - Ephesus - hardly the most original name but excellent food and very cheerful friendly staff. We will definitely be making a return visit!
But Now To Start Planning For the BIG Summer Trip!!!

Have to say, I think your display looks wonderful. As you know, I think the scarves are beautiful :) I understand what you say about compromising your style, and about feeling that your work seems different to other students', and agree that the perhaps subliminal pressure to conform to 'industry standards' or 'etiquette' can result in a dumbing down in individuals' creativities. This has not applied to your work, and it shows! :) Think it looks joyous and bright and playful and optimistic... A final show to be really proud of, I reckon!!! :) xx
