Margaret River

We had a great weekend at Margaret River staying with some friends in their house.  ....Dr Fred went climbing 2 days running - Wilyabrup (pictured... Dr Fred halfway up..his climbing partner on the top) and Cosy Corner and now he's totally knackered but he did have a really good time.   We had a little wander around Margaret River.  It's a small bustling town with quite a lot of nice shops and a couple of interesting galleries plus some interesting street art. There was actually one painting in the gallery I would loved to have bought but I don't think we could have carried it home...(or justified cost). I nearly bought a load of tat for the girls but decided that tat could be bought anyway so I would wait.  There were some nice coffee shops and a very beautiful tree - see photo it looked like a conifer with dreadlocks...  On Sunday we went for a walk at a  coastal cove called Cosy Corner.  After brewing up on a very windy cliff top,

Second post today... the rock posts are just interludes.. FINALLY!!!  More kangaroos.... there loads more but it was too dark to photograph them.... We camped in a site at Windy Harbour and it sure was aptly named... serious gales confined us to quarters.. we did a short walk on the beach but I had a dreadful headache so Dr Fred went off to explore the headland on his own... the rock here was very different to the granite we had become used to. It was more fossilised sand dunes quite crumbly and eroded into fantastic shapes and patterns.  As a campsite Windy Harbour did the job but it wasnt the best.. but for one night it was ok.. in the morning we got up and the weather was loads calmer and there were no kangaroos to be seen!!!  We drove to the headland where Fred had walked the day before - the rocks were pretty amazing .. there had obviously been a huge cave made out of the fossilized rock which was everywhere and it had partially collapsed making a huge window or bridge

Here are more rocks from Dr Freds perspective... scroll on for glorious granite ....  ( when taken with the proper camera they are too large to load on this computer so I have to resize them which may affect quality). Theres not alot Rotten In This Shire of Denmark...

We decided at the beginning of this trip to go slower and spend more time in each place instead of rushing like lemmins to see what round the next corner so we are doing our best... We have spent 3 days at a very nice camping at Parry beach ... with a friendly kookaburra and brave mouse that came to visit us in the night. The place is alegedly teeming with deadly snakes but we havent seen any .. yet.. From this base we have walked on alot of beaches, and we wandered on some  cliff tops and up some hills... and scrambeled on quite alot of rocks...we visited Greens Pool - good for swimming and Elephant rocks, both were very pretty but absolutely crowded as it was the weekend.  We had a pleasant wander around Denmark which is quite a pretty little town, full of nice shops with very expensive things in... some nice artwork and good cacti though.  But mainly it's been more stunning long beaches, turquoise seas and crashing waves... and in between a fe

When it Rains it Pours....

It's a rainy day in Albany...but it's quite a relief to some degree. Chance to catch up on chores and write some blog...  We had looked around the town a couple of days ago and decided it was okay but just another seasidy place... so we moved on to find camping for the night.  We spent the last few days on various stunning beaches (and rock) one night in a  beautiful bay called Shelley Beach where we camped right on the beach for the night.. Just as the light was going, a school of dolphins just skimmed along the shoreline they must have been 20 or more just bouncing and bobbing in and out of the water.  Apparently they were chasing all the fish into the corner of the bay where they then just swirl around and have what looked like a very choice feast.  It was very special to see them ...  taking photographs was quite difficult .... there is a dolphin in this picture!  We spent the night with waves crashing against the beach and in the morning after Dr F
